Dardanella Bench Update

Sep 12
1 min read

Work continued on the Dardanella Sunset Bench this past Thursday thanks to Peter, Mary,  Vince and Dave Lavergne.  We resawed another Dardanella  cedar column using the track saw and the bandsaw.  They have been jointed and planed to make the seat slats.  Because they came from  the same column we have perfect book matched grain and consistent colour throughout.  All of the parts for the bench side assemblies have been sanded at 120 grit. Peter used the wood we milled prior to Thursday to cut the arched rails for the seat back following the mock-up of the back that Vince and Mary spent considerable time and effort putting together.

Some of the Next steps:

  • Continue sanding the parts at 150, 220, 320 and 400 grits

  • Round over the seat slats

  • Continue to build the seat back following the mock-up

  • Cut down  the back  legs to lower the seat back.  We will need to cut just a four more mortices (oh yay!) to attach the seat back to the back legs.

  • Likely more sanding!
